Sonex Aircraft Llc - Sonex Aircraft, LLC is an American aircraft manufacturer based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin that produces kits for four metal monoplanes. The company was founded in 1998 by John Monnett, who developed the Monnett Sonerai series of sport planes, the Monnett Monerai gliders, the Monnett Moni motorplane and the Monnett Monex racer. Monet's designs at the Steve F. Udvar-Hazy is on display at the National Air and Space Museum near Washington.

In January 2022, Sonex employee and CEO Mark Scheible purchased the assets of Sonex Aircraft LLC and Sonex Aerospace LLC to form a new company, Sonex LLC. Schaible will be the owner and president of the new company.

The aircraft was powered by a 54 kW (72 hp) DC electric motor controlled by a newly developed controller. Power comes from a collection of 14.5 kWh lithium-polymer batteries that provide the aircraft with an hour of low-speed cruise or 15 minutes of cruising. After nearly 50 years in the kit aircraft industry, Sonex Founder and President John Monette has announced his retirement from Sonex Aircraft, LLC, effective June 2, 2018.

John Mone still owns the experimental aircraft and engine, but there are future options for alternate ownership of Sonex Aircraft, LLC. Monnett invites proposals from qualified individuals and/or companies interested in continuing Sonex Aircraft's successful legacy into the next generation or assisting in Sonex Aircraft's transition to an employee ownership succession plan.

John's roots in experimental aircraft began in 1968 when, as a young school teacher, John began building a highly modified Midget Mustang project and first met legendary aircraft designer and architect Steve Whitman, forming a lifelong friendship with Whitman. and the Formula Vee racing Sonerai I, the first development of John's design.
